Kings of the Springs (KOTS) began as two close friends who enjoyed exploring springs and sharing their adventures with the world. As they visited more springs, fear arose for future of the places they held dear.
As Brent and David investigated further, they learned from experts that Florida's springs were under threat. Decades of pollution and over-consumption of spring water were responsible for the blankets of slimy green algae, polluted water, and piles of trash they encountered. This knowledge instilled a new sense of responsibility for these treasures and they decided it was time to act.
In 2017, KOTS organized its first-ever springs cleanup with just five volunteers. In 2019, Kings of the Springs became a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. As of January 2020, they've hosted more than 30 cleanups with over 200 volunteers, educated the public at more than a dozen events, and published over 40 videos highlighting the Springs, their wildlife, and how to protect and preserve this precious ecosystem.
